Back of Check Images are Blank and not Endorsed
What if the back of a check is blank?
You do a blank endorsement by simply signing your name on the back of the check. Then, when you’re at the bank, you tell the teller if you want to cash it or deposit it. People will also do a blank endorsement when they’re depositing a check through an ATM or using mobile deposit.
What does it mean when a check is not endorsed?
Checkwriters can often view images online of processed checks, including the endorsement area, after checks are paid. With no endorsement, nobody can see your signature or your account number unless your bank adds the account number during processing.
What happens if you don’t endorse the back of a check?
Without a signature, the check might be sent back to the issuer, resulting in fees and delays in getting your money. Even if your bank deposits a check without a signature on the back and you see the money added to your account, that check might get rejected a week or two later.
Can a check be deposited if not endorsed?
A bank will not cash a check that is not endorsed, however, an individual can deposit a check into the payee’s account without signing the check. The signature line would need the words “For Deposit Only.”
Can you mobile deposit without endorsement?
“For Mobile Deposit Only” must be written legibly below your signature. Unfortunately, if you deposit a check through our mobile app without a signature or this endorsement, the check may be rejected and the deposit will be removed from your account.
